Ted is Co-Founder of Angelvest and has over 20 years of digital experience spanning media, education, and banking at both startups and multinationals. He is currently Head of Digital, China at HSBC where he is driving digital transformation of the retail banking group, starting with new digital products and strategic partnerships.
Previously, Ted was CEO of Zoodles, an award-winning kids’ education mobile app startup backed by HTC and Independent Board Director of Taomee, a leading children’s digital entertainment company.
He was also BBC Worldwide’s Executive Vice President for Asia driving growth across all businesses from digital media and TV channels to consumer products and Lonely Planet. Before joining BBC, Mr. Lai was Senior Vice President at Warner Bros. where he launched the WarnerTV channel and on-demand services across Asia.
Prior to relocating to Asia, Ted was a business development and product management executive in the US at several high-profile startups, including idealab’s FreePC from inception to merger and IPO on the NASDAQ.
He also developed strategic plans for new theme parks and virtual reality entertainment centers for the Walt Disney Company.
Mr. Lai earned his MBA degree at Harvard University and MS Engineering-Economics and BS Electrical Engineering degrees at Stanford University, where he co-founded Stanford Consulting—still going strong after 25 years.
